Verbier festival 2012: Charles Dutoit conducts Tchaikovsky/Manfred Honeck conducts Brahms

The Verbier Festival, one of the most prestigious music festivals in the world, annually presents top artists of classical music in picturesque Swiss scenery and has also committed itself to promote excellent young musical talents. In 2012 the musical director of the Verbier Festival Charles Dutoit and Austrian conductor Manfred Honek performed Tchaikovsky’s most beloved Symphony No. 5 and Brahm’s last Symphony No.4 with the Verbier Festival Orchestra. Both pieces had a significant influence on the composers’ complicated relationship and it was actually on the occasion of a performance of Tchaikovsky’s 5th Symphony where Brahms and Tchaikovsky finally reconciled their differences.
