BACH SILOTI Andante from Violin Sonata no 2 by concert pianist Stéphanie ELBAZ

BACH SILOTI Andante from Violin Sonata no 2 by concert pianist Stephanie ELBAZ
This beautiful Andante originates from the 2nd Sonata BWV 1003 for solo violin, which was composed by Johan Sebastian Bach around 1720. At that time, he was an employee at Prince Leopold’ Court in Cöthen and essentially focused on composing instrumental music. This Andante was later transcribed for solo piano by Alexander Siloti, who was Rachmaninov’s first cousin and has revealed to be one of the most skilled and productive in the art of transcription. As a matter of fact, he wrote more than 200 arrangements of this kind, as well as orchestral editions of pieces from Bach, Beethoven, Liszt, Tchaikovsky and Vivaldi.
