During the residency for the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester Easter Tour 2013 that took place at the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, we produced a video documentary. It was directed by Oliver Becker who, together with his team, filmed the entire process of bringing an orchestra to life, from the very first sectional rehearsals to the final concert under Herbert Blomstedt.
This is a very special project for the GMJO, since it is the first time that we can share this unique experience with a broader audience.
So, for the next several weeks, on every Friday, we will post on Facebook, YouTube, and on our website, a series of clips from this documentary. Thus, you shall meet one of our musicians or one of our tutors, you can hear what Leo McFall, our current assistant conductor, or Herbert Blomstedt say about the orchestra — and, of course, you can hear the GMJO perform Bruckner’s Symphony No. 4.
