Through recordings made at home and at Symphony Center, members of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago perform works by trailblazing contemporary composers for the first concert in the ensemble’s new online series, premiering Jan. 21 on CSOtv. Anchoring the free program is John Adams’ Short Ride in a Fast Machine, which proves that minimalism can indeed be synonymous with excitement. Also featured are Jessie Montgomery’s Starburst, Andy Akiho’s LIgNEouS 1 and Tyshawn Sorey’s Sentimental Shards (which references both John Adams and Duke Ellington).
