Glinka was a Russian composer who is considered one of the key founders of the Russian classical music romantic period in Russia. The Nocturne we play was originally written for piano solo, and was published in 1839. It bears the nickname ‘The Separation’. He composed it for his sister Elizaveta who was away in St. Petersburg when he wrote it.
