OVERVIEW
This concert features two favorite symphonies inspired by the countryside and nature. In Beethoven’s “Pastoral,” his most programmatic symphony, you can hear the rolling thunder, a lively country dance, and the calling of a shepherd’s pipes. The wild, rugged beauty of Scotland inspired Mendelssohn’s “Scottish” — filled with moody, atmospheric melodies that evoke mist-shrouded ruins, craggy fells, and highland celebrations.
