Leonard Bernstein conducts the New York Philharmonic in Holst’s orchestral suite, The Planets. Five of the seven movements—Mars, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter, and Uranus—are performed, and then Bernstein and the Philharmonic improvise a piece for Pluto, whose discovery in 1930 postdated the Holst composition.

Originally broadcast on CBS Television Network, March 26, 1972.

Produced and directed by Roger Englander.
