Franz Schubert (1797-1828):
Symphony No. 3 in D major, D. 200
I. Adagio maestoso – Allegro con brio
II. Allegretto
III. Menuetto. Vivace
IV. Presto vivace
Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Carlos Kleiber (1930-2004)
Artwork by Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller (1793-1865)
For me, this is the most remarkable recording of this Symphony, written by a youthful Schubert more than 200 years ago in 1815, a few months after his 18th birthday.
I wish you all a Happy New Year, as cheerful and high-spirited as this music!
