There are no perfect gods except the gods of the fanatics.
I love this song by Enrique Granados (1867-1916). It belongs to the collection Canciones Amatorias.
A lad sensually laments the fact that his services were not any longer recquired by the beautiful señora and mistress of his heart. He was excluded out of her blossomed doors…
The obviously spanish melody is languishing for unacknowledged love and is tastefully ornemented. The accompaniment belongs to the 18th century and makes us think of a running stream of sorrow. There are three errors in the prosody, but who cares if the result is so touching?
Maria Bayo owns a refined, warm, expressive and well mastered voice capable of singing piano on dificult notes. She pronounces excellently her native language. Who cares if sometimes she does not agree with the pitch? The whole rendition is passionate.
The song seems a quite dificult one. This explains why it does not appear at recitals.
The photos were taken in Galaxidi and Mykonos (Greece) and Pirenopolis (Brazil).
Recorded in 1992.
Juan Antonio Alvarez-Parejo is the elegant pianist.
Enjoy!
