Simon Rattle & Berliner Philharmoniker – Dvořák: Slavonic Dance Op. 72 No. 7 in C Major

Dvořák’s Slavonic Dances were inspired by Johannes Brahms’s Hungarian Dances, they have also originally been written for piano four hands. Music publisher Fritz Simrock encouraged Dvořák to follow Brahms’s model and compose piano music with “national character” and in dance form. The dances are amongst Dvořák’s most popular works up to this day.

This performance was recorded at the New Year’s Eve Gala on 31rd December 2011 in Berlin.
The Gala stands out with a festive and energetic program: the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Simon Rattle performs a variety of dances by Brahms, Dvořák, Strauss and Stravinsky live at the Philharmonie, Berlin.
