Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 “Eroica”, 4th movement | conducted by Paavo Järvi

Paavo Järvi and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen.

This fourth movement of the Symphony No. 3 in E-flat Major, opus 55 by Ludwig van Beethoven is pure exuberance, perfectly fitting the energetic playing style of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen.
The movement is based on a melody that Beethoven had used in three previous compositions. One of them is his music to the ballet “The Creatures of Prometheus” about that figure from Greek mythology who is at the root of human civilization.
Accordingly, the mood here is big and grand. The movement – and the symphony – are in E-flat, a key that composers often use for heroic, noble ideas.
This is the only time Beethoven had gotten so much mileage out of a single theme. Stretching its potential even further, Beethoven turns that melody into ten variations in this Allegro molto(very fast) finale of his Third Symphony. There are quiet moments and boisterous ones, but the symphony ends in an outpouring of sheer energy.
