The Philadelphia Orchestra Plays Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8

The Philadelphia Orchestra, conducted by Stéphane Denève, opens their 2018 Bravo! Vail residency with Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8 in G major and Brahm’s Violin Concerto.

The G major Symphony perfectly mirrors Dvořák and his love of the hills and forests of the Bohemia in which he lived. Dvořák was absolutely profligate with themes in the Symphony’s opening movement. The third movement, Allegretto grazioso, is a lilting essay in the style of an Austrian folk dance, the Ländler.
