Welcome to Intermission, a new video series from the LA Phil where we look at the lives of our musicians beyond their concert performances. For our premiere episode, we spoke with the LA Phil’s Principal Timpanist, Joseph Pereira, for a behind-the-scenes look at the preparation for the world premiere of his LA Phil-commissioned composition, Threshold for Solo Timpani, Two Percussion and Orchestra. Threshold was premiered January 25, 2018, at Walt Disney Concert Hall in a performance featuring Pereira, Maraca2, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic conducted by LA Phil Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel.
