Last year, Frank Peter Zimmermann lost his 1711 Stradivarius after its owner, a German bank, went bankrupt. In a few months however, he was lucky enough to get a hold of an instrument that he had been listening to in recordings as a child – the 1727 ‘General Dupont’ Stradivarius played for many years by Arthur Grumiaux.
