Cyril Scott is regarded by many as the forgotten British Impressionist, mostly obscured by his contemporaries Gustav Holst and Ralph Vaughan-Williams. His symphonic poem Neptune is a revised version from Disaster at Sea, a musical honoring to the sinking of RMS Titanic, which happened on April 15, 1912 far of the coast of Newfoundland and certainly fractured the spirit of absolute certainty the British Empire fostered as one of its staunchest principles. In this revised version, Scott omitted most of the programmatic elements and replaced them with abstract imagery and reminiscences of tunes. However, there is a general sense of impending doom against the will and power of Neptune, the unrelenting God of Sea.
Cyril Scott es visto por muchos como el Impresionista británico olvidado, opacado más que nadie por sus contemporáneos Gustav Holst y Ralph Vaughan-Williams. Su poema sinfónico Neptune es una versión revisada de Desastre en Altamar, un homenaje musical al hundimiento del RMS Titanic, el cual ocurrió el 15 de Abril de 1912 lejos de la costa de Terranova y que ciertamente fracturó el espíritu de absoluta certidumbre que el Imperio Británico tenía por estandarte. En esta versión revisada, Scott omitió casi todos los elementos programáticos y los remplazó con imágenes abstractas y reminiscencias de canciones conocidas. No obstante, hay un sentido generalizado de destino funesto ante la voluntad y el poder de Neptuno, el implacable dios del Mar.
