NOTE: “The Sabbath cantate was Seter’s first composition to draw attention to his unusual style of writing. It was composed for solos, chorus and string orchestra and written to psalm texts and passages from the Song of Songs. The impressive cantate is based on modal counterpoint throughout but the effect is not archaic at all, since plain chant and synagogue music were derived from a common source, and the composer
reaches at times a most personal style” (Peter Gradenwitz)
