Igor Markevitch (1912-1983): Icarus (1943)
Ukranian born composer and conductor who became an Italian and French citizen, Igor Matkevitch has dozens of major compositions to his name including a ballet entitled Icare (Icarus). The ballet was originally composed in 1932 as L’envol d’Icare, but later recomposed as Icare in 1943. This is the first U.S. performance by the New York Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Leonard Bernstein in Carnegie Hall, New York, April 13, . 1958.
