Holst “Mars” (‘The Planets’) – Leonard Slatkin conducts

Gustav Holst’s most popular work was played at the First Night of the 2004 Proms in London’s Royal Albert Hall by the BBCSO. Leonard Slatkin was then in his final season as the orchestra’s principal conductor, a post he had held since 2000. From that performance comes Holst’s stark evocation of war in music that was written before the outbreak of World War I.
