SYMPHONY CONCERT
Okko Kamu, conductor
Ilja Gringolts, violin

Sibelius: Overture in E major (1891)
Tchaikovsky: Violin Concerto
Brahms: Symphony No. 2

The Violin Concerto composed by Pyotr Tchaikovsky beside Lake Geneva, surrounded by rugged Alpine peaks, is virtually unsurpassed in popularity. Here to play this evergreen favourite with Lahti audiences is St. Petersburg violinist Ilja Gringolts. The Symphony No. 2 by Johannes Brahms evokes peaceful country scenes and its pastoral mood has been likened to that of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6. The concert conducted by Okko Kamu begins with a work by Sibelius relatively seldom performed, the Overture in E major.
